Heavy Rains Lash Jammu and Kashmir, More in Offing

SRINAGAR: The maximum temperature dropped across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, with most places recording below-normal temperatures amidst rainfall in multiple areas of the Union Territory.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, along with other parts of the Union Territory, received fresh rainfall.

Gulmarg received the highest precipitation till 5:30 PM, recording 21.8mm of rainfall, followed by Kupwara with 12.4mm during the same period.

Pahalgam also experienced heavy rainfall, with a recorded precipitation of 10.1mm. Srinagar, however, recorded 5.0mm of rainfall till 5:30 PM.

Similarly, Katra in the Jammu division recorded 14.2mm of rainfall, while Jammu station recorded 12.2mm during the period.

Furthermore, the Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that there is a possibility of a spell of rain and thundershowers at scattered places tomorrow. From August 31 to September 1, the weather is expected to remain generally dry with brief spells of rain and thundershowers at isolated places.

On September 2 and 3, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy, with the possibility of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places.

He added that from September 4 to 7, the weather is expected to remain generally dry.

However, in its advisory, the MeT predicted flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in some vulnerable areas—(KNO)
