The month of August is about to end, but heavy rains are still continuing across the country. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in many states on Sunday (August 25) as well. Red alert has been issued for nine states and orange alert for four states. Tripura and Gujarat have been receiving heavy rains for several days and flood-like conditions are developing here. The situation in Tripura has become worrisome.

The Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy skies and moderate rain in Delhi on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Heavy rains are also expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura. States like Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Bihar are also likely to receive heavy rains.
  • An orange alert has been issued for parts of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat on August 27. Apart from this, heavy rains are also expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Tripura and Mizoram. Torrential rains can cause problems in Kutch and Saurashtra of Gujarat.
  • There is an orange alert in Saurashtra and Kutch of Gujarat on August 28. Apart from this, there may be heavy rains in Maharashtra, Kerala, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland.

Heavy rain predicted in Odisha for three days

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of Odisha may receive heavy to very heavy rains in the next three days as the low pressure area formed over Jharkhand is moving westwards. In view of the IMD forecast, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued a high alert for all districts and alerted the officials. According to the IMD forecast, many areas of Odisha will receive heavy to very heavy rains till August 26. It has forecast heavy to very heavy rains (7 to 20 cm) at some places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Kendrapara districts on Sunday. According to the IMD, from Sunday night to Monday morning, heavy to very heavy rains may occur at some places in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.

Heavy rain likely in southern districts of West Bengal till August 26

The Meteorological Department on Saturday warned of very heavy rainfall in many southern districts of West Bengal till August 26 due to cyclonic circulation and monsoon activity in the north of the Bay of Bengal. The department said in its bulletin that the cyclonic circulation may turn into a low pressure area in the region by Monday. The department said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in South and North 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Hooghly, Birbhum, East and West Bardhaman districts. Heavy rain is expected in other districts of South Bengal including Kolkata. Heavy rains in Kolkata on Saturday afternoon led to waterlogging in many areas of the central and northern parts of the city including Central Avenue. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to go into the sea of ​​​​North Bay of Bengal till August 26.

A government update said that of the 206 reservoirs in the state, 52 are fully filled, 66 are on high alert and 42 are 70-100 per cent full. The Sardar Sarovar dam at Kevadia in Narmada district has reached 88 per cent capacity, the statement said. Eight teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 20 teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in various districts, officials said.

Heavy rain warning till August 27

The IMD has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places and extremely heavy rainfall in some parts of South Gujarat till the morning of August 27. According to government updates, 17,450 people have been shifted to safer places and 1,653 people have been rescued from rain-affected areas since the onset of monsoon. In view of the IMD’s heavy rainfall warning, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea till August 27.
