Half An Hour, Calls And Silence: Three Calls That Shattered World Of Kolkata Doctor’s Parents
Kolkata Rape And Murder Case: The middle-class parents of a daughter who made them proud by becoming a doctor were happily living their lives in Kolkata. They were content with what they had. But then, that dark night of August 9 arrived and shattered their happy little world. At around 11:30 pm on August 9, the trainee female doctor called her mother, just as she did every day, and talked to her.
On the morning of August 10, three calls within half an hour devastated their lives and set them on a fight for justice. NDTV has obtained the audio of the calls made to the parents the morning after the 31-year-old doctor’s rape and murder at the Kolkata hospital. The recordings capture the shock and confusion experienced by the elderly parents long before they reached the hospital to find their daughter’s brutalized body.
Kolkata Rape And Murder: The First Call
The distressed parents of the tragically raped and murdered girl shared with the court that they received the initial call at 10:53 in the morning. Based on the Kolkata Police’s timeline, this call was made by the Assistant Superintendent of the local hospital. Interestingly, the police report only speaks of one lone call and conveniently omits the content of this conversation. However, mute evidence is provided by three separate audio files, suggesting there were indeed three distinct calls, with the last gut-wrenching one revealing the death of their child to the heartbroken parents.
• The Father: Hello, what has happened there, please tell me
• Caller: Condition of your daughter is very bad, please come ASAP
• Father: Please tell us what has happened
• Caller: Doctor will tell you, come fast.
• Father: Who are you?
• Caller: I’m assistant super at the hospital, not doctor
• Father: Is there any doctors there?
• Caller: I’m the assistant super. We have rushed your daughter to Emergency ward. Come here and contact us.
• Mother: What happened to her, she was on duty
• Caller: You come fast, as soon as possible.
Kolkata Rape And Murder: The Second Call
In the second call, a male voice can be heard talking to the parents of the victim. During the call, the parents already left for the hospital.
• Caller: I’m speaking from RG Kar hospital.
• Mother: Yes, please say
• Caller: You are coming, right?
• Mother: Yes, How is she now?
• Caller: You come, we will talk, come to chest department HOD
• Victim’s mother: Okay, Okay.
Kolkata Rape And Murder: The Third Call
Tragically, the parents of the young death victim only heard about their daughter’s unbearable decision to take her own life in the third phone call. This aspect has stirred up legal disputes, with court justices wondering why the parents were misled with incorrect information to begin with. Interestingly, it was the Deputy Director who relayed this heartbreaking news, the same person who had made the first call.
• Father: Hello
• Caller: This is the Assistant Super.
• Father: Yes
• Caller: The matter is that your daughter has probably died by suicide. She is dead, police are here, we are all here, please come as soon as possible.
• Father: We are coming, right away
• Mother (scream can be heard in the background): My daughter is no more.
The way communication was handled by the hospital management with the grieving parents has captured the eyes of the justice system, getting closely scrutinized by both the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court under the unfortunate series of events. According to details outlined in the high court petition by the parents, there was a lapse of three long hours, triggering their suspicion of a deliberate delay. However, the narrative presented by Kolkata Police contradicts this, claiming the parents checked into the hospital at 1pm and swiftly within 10 minutes, were guided to the seminar hall where the body was unfortunately found.
