New Delhi: Reacting sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Ukraine next month, the Congress has sought to know whether the raging violence in Manipur was taken up for discussion in the meeting between Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh and PM Modi and will PM Modi visit the strife-torn state before or after his potential trip to the European nation.

In a post on X, Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in charge of communications, said that he was asking a very simple question. And the question was: “Did Shri N. Biren Singh meet with Shri Narendra Modi separately one-on-one and discuss the situation in Manipur, which started burning on the night of May 3rd, 2023?.”

CM Biren Singh was at two vital meetings that were presided over by PM Modi on Saturday, the Niti Aayog meeting and a meeting of BJP chief ministers and deputy chief ministers.

Manipur has witnessed violent clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023. Around 200 people have died in the strife and thousands have been displaced. The Congress has slammed the PM for not visiting the conflict-torn state even though BJP governs Manipur.
