Announces new admin bldgs for nine talukas, foundation stones within a year

Margao: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the state’s financial position is robust and that the government is on track to repay all outstanding loans and borrowings before the current term concludes.

Speaking during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Rs 22-crore Fatorda police station and police quarters project, Sawant said that the government has not borrowed any funds in the first four months of this financial year, due to the stable financial condition of the state. He said that over the next three years, the government would focus on repaying all borrowings, including the accrued interest.

He said the government continues to invest in essential infrastructure projects despite a substantial loan of Rs 30,000 crore. He said that administrative offices in nine talukas would be enhanced within the next year. Except for Salcete, Tiswadi, and Dharbandora, the remaining taluka offices need upgrades to provide better services to the public, he said. Sources said that the CM has given instructions to the officers to identify land for new administrative bhavans in the nine talukas. The government is planning to lay the foundation stones within a year.

The CM said that the government’s borrowing is strategically aimed at improving infrastructure, public safety, and community wellness. He clarified that although the state can take loans up to Rs 4,200 crore as per central guidelines, it has not utilised this option.

Sawant also said that there are plans for new architecture, pharmacy, and home science college and that the new  pharmacy will come in 2 lakh sqm land   in the Goa University campus.

Additionally, the Chief Minister said ongoing efforts are being made to upgrade human resources, with a new structure planned for the ITI at Borda. The PWD has been instructed to identify land for constructing campuses under the skill development initiative, he said.

Speaking at the function, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai said that the proposal for the Fatorda police station was moved in 2013, just one year after his election as MLA. He said it has taken 11 long years to reach where they have reached today.
