Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finished fifth on the points table with seven wins and as many losses in IPL 2024. A lot of focus is on MS Dhoni and whether he will return to play in IPL 2025.

Meanwhile, the former CSK skipper said that he will think about his future with the franchise after the IPL finalizes the retention rules. He further said that he will do what is best for the team.

The struggle for the franchise under their new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was visible earlier this season. He managed to score runs with the bat but his bowlers could not perform the way he expected them to.

In the meeting between the IPL owners and the BCCI, several important pointers were discussed and renditions were one of them. Several franchises were in favor of retaining at least seven to eight players. Almost all the franchises were against mega auctions but said that they are in favor of mini auctions every year.

Impact Players and the participation of overseas players were the two more important topics discussed in the meeting. Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal opposed the rule saying that it limits the role of all-rounders, especially Indian all-rounders.

Previously, Rohit Sharma also said that the rule hampers the role of the Indian all-rounders in the tournament as the rule allows teams to play with an extra batsman or a bowler depending on the match situation.

Overseeing an ordinary season, Chennai Super Kings will also release a few overseas players ahead of the mega auction. In this article, we predict three of them. There are reports that the IPL franchise might be given 100 crores purse value ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Overseas Players Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Will Release Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Richard Gleeson

Gleeson was added to the squad as a replacement for the injured Devon Conway. He played just two matches for the franchise and picked up a wicket.

He will turn 38 by the time the next IPL starts and hence keeping in mind his age and fitness, Chennai Super Kings might release the England fast bowler. Besides playing in the IPL, he has played six T20Is for England.

Mustafizur Rahman

The Fizz can be the other player who can be released by CSK. It might depend upon the team combination as well. He picked 14 wickets in nine matches for the franchise. He had to return for international duties with more than half of the tournament remaining.

One of the reasons why CSK might not retain Fizz is that in the past the Bangladesh players have not been given the NOCs after they enrolled themselves for the auction. Release Mustafizur will help the CSK management tackle this problem.

Mitchell Santner

The Kiwi spinner might be the third overseas player released. Santner has played only for Chennai Super Kings in his IPL career. Overall, in 18 matches for Chennai Super Kings, he has picked up 15 wickets.

In 2024, he played three matches and picked up two wickets. The management might eventually buy him back at the mega auction, but they might need to release him eventually so that they can retain much of the purse.
