Doctor attacked by drunk patient in Mumbai hospital

What’s the story

A female resident doctor was reportedly attacked by a drunk patient and his companions at Sion Hospital in Mumbai early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 3:30am when the doctor was on duty in the ward.

The patient arrived at the hospital with facial injuries, and while he was receiving treatment, his attendants allegedly abused and threatened the doctor.

Doctor sustains injuries, attackers flee scene

The doctor sustained injuries while attempting to defend herself from the group of five to six intoxicated men, including the patient.

After the attack, the patient and his companions fled from the hospital.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed regarding the matter.

The BMC MARD, an association representing resident doctors at Sion Hospital, described the incident as “alarming” and indicative of a significant security failure.

“Our doctors safety is non-negotiable. This situation requires immediate attention and implementation of strict security measures in all hospitals,” they added.

The attack comes amid a nationwide protest over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

She was murdered while on duty on August 9.
