Durand Cup 2024 semi-final: Tickets sold out in minutes, Fan Parks to be set up across Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 25: The highly anticipated first semi-final of the Durand Cup 2024 between Shillong Lajong FC and North-East United FC has generated immense excitement among the fans, with tickets for the game selling out instantly.

The match will take place on Monday at the J.N. Stadium in Shillong.

According to the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Phase 1 tickets, released online on Friday, were sold out within six minutes. The offline sale of tickets through counters at Laitumkhrah, Polo, and Police Bazaar continued on Saturday. An additional box office was set up at U Soso Tham Auditorium to support the sale of tickets.

“Today, both online and offline sales led to a complete sell-out of all tickets for the semi-finals, filling the stadium to its full capacity,” the press statement by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs said.

It further stated that the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, worked closely with the magistrates, police, and local Dorbar Shnongs to create a safe and conducive environment for fans to purchase tickets, who waited patiently to purchase tickets.

In order to ensure that all citizens are part of the match experience beyond the 15,000 spectators at the J.N. Stadium, the state government has announced the setup of Fan Parks at multiple locations in Shillong and district headquarters across Meghalaya.

The designated Fan Parks include:
1. Mawlai Madan Heh (Stadium)
2. R.V. Lyngdoh Parking Lot (opposite Golf Retreat)
3. Malki Ground
4. Umpling Maw-arling
5. Laitumkhrah Police Point Parking Lot
6. NEHU Campus

The Fan Parks will broadcast the match live, and have live performances from the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Program (MGMP) and food stalls to create a vibrant, stadium-like atmosphere.

Additionally, online redemption facility of tickets will be available from 10 am on Sunday at U Soso Tham Auditorium.

Moreover, the statement stated that the Government of Meghalaya will release further advisories on match-day logistics and other related matters from time to time.

For those unable to attend the match in person, all Durand Cup matches are being broadcast live on SonyLiv OTT and TV channels – Sony Sports 2 & 3.
