The West Chester Rustin boys’ soccer team opened the 2024 season with a non-league shutout, blanking Plymouth Whitemarsh 2-0 on Friday. Zach Truitt opened the scoring for Rustin in the first half off a Jackson Hutsell assist. In the second half Aidan Koch finished off a rebound from a keeper’s save eight minutes in.
Unionville 6, Strath Haven 2 — Charlie Undorf registered a hat trick plus an assist to help lead the Longhorns past the Panthers in the season opener. Jax Pinkston, Brian Bessa and Derek Hall also scored for Unionville, and keeper Jeremy Teufel had a solid game in goal with 10 saves.
West Chester Henderson 2, Boyertown 0 – The Warriors opened the 2024 campaign by blanking the Bears in a non-league clash. Josh Jarden scored both goals for Henderson.
Girls Tennis
Downingtown East 6, West Chester Henderson 1 – The Cougars’ Twisha Dudgundi and Laasya Puvvadi won a marathon match at No. 3 doubles over Livia Corbitt and Megan Dean 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2 to help East win in Ches-Mont action. Mahi Patel, Briana Litvan and Maya Shankar all won straight set singles matches.
Downingtown West 7, Spring-Ford 0 – In non-league action, the Whippets swept the Rams, and all seven matches were in straight sets. Advika Anand, Ray Yang and Sanni Varanasi were victorious in singles. The closest double match came at No. 1, where Ella Mae Markowski and Elaine Hu prevailed 7-6, 6-4.
Field Hockey
Downingtown West 5, Spring-Ford 1 – The Whippets scored the first four goals and went on to beat the Rams in a non-league contest. Aimee Largoza led the way with three goals, while teammates Regan Welsh and Allie Pizak each added single goals for West.
Volleyball
Garnet Valley 3, West Chester Rustin 0 – The visiting Golden Knights fell to the Jaguars 22-25, 18-25, 13-25 in non-conference action. Junior Avery Stromberg paced Rustin with seven kills, sophomore Jadyn Johnson added 27 digs and senior Victoria D-Ulisse chipped in 17 assists for the Knights.
