Airlines issue advisory for air passengers
On the social media platform X, airlines have cautioned that flights may be impacted by adverse weather conditions. Vistara reported that flight UK998 from Pune to Delhi has been rerouted to Lucknow due to poor weather at Delhi Airport.
Air India advised passengers that flights to and from Delhi might be affected this evening and recommended arriving early at the airport due to potential delays from slow traffic and waterlogging.
SpiceJet also warned that heavy rain in Delhi could disrupt all departures and arrivals. IndiGo, in a light-hearted post, announced that heavy rainfall is expected throughout the night and urged passengers to check their flight status.
“We have a special announcement straight from the heavenly skies! The rain gods have decided to shower #Delhi with their blessings tonight. As a result, we’re expecting heavy rainfall throughout the night,” IndiGo said in a post on X.
Heavy rain causes traffic woes in Delhi-NCR
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across most parts of the capital over the next two hours. The intense downpour has led to widespread traffic congestion throughout the city.
“Clouds have converged over Delhi from all four sectors. Widespread Light/Moderate Rainfall with isolated Intense to very intense Spell (3-5cm/hr) likely over Delhi during next 2 hours,” the IMD said in its latest update.
The sudden downpour caused extensive waterlogging across various parts of the city, disrupting traffic and creating difficulties for pedestrians. A red alert has been issued until 9 PM. Social media visuals show significant water accumulation on Minto Road, RK Puram, Janpath, Parliament Street, Karol Bagh, Nauroji Nagar, Pant Marg, and Mayur Vihar, among other locations.
In Noida, waterlogging affected areas such as Gaur City, Film City, and several underpasses along the Delhi-Noida Expressway. Gurugram also reported water accumulation on major roads, including Subhash Nagar and Old Railway Road, along with other areas.
