Core Committee Formed To Tackle Monkeypox In Mizoram

Aizawl, August 26: In response to the global monkeypox outbreak, the Mizoram Health Department has established a core committee on Mpox to oversee preventive measures and ensure preparedness.

A meeting was held to discuss the rising Mpox cases worldwide, and specialized groups will operate under the core committee. A state-level committee will also be formed to work under the coordination of higher authorities.

Zoram Medical College (ZMC) has been designated as a Sentinel Site by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), making it one of the 28 top laboratories across India. The Civil Hospital in Lunglei is also expected to be utilized as an additional sentinel site.

The Health Department has issued a clarification regarding rumors of a girl from Siaha town contracting Mpox. The girl was diagnosed with chickenpox with a secondary infection and has since been discharged from the hospital. The department has urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and causing unnecessary panic on social media.
