Cop dies after being given anaesthesia
Mumbai: A shocking incident has surfaced from Mumbai where a 28-year-old woman constable, who was admitted to a private hospital for an ear surgery, died as she developed complications after being administered anaesthesia, police said.
Gauri Subhash Patil, constable of the Mumbai police, was to undergo an ear surgery at Axis Hospital in Lokhandwala in the western suburb of Andheri. Before her surgery, she was given anaesthesia injection following which her health started getting deteriorated and she died on Thursday night.
What police said
Police received information about the incident around 10.45 pm following which a team from Amboli Police station reached the hospital. During investigation, it was found that the woman constable had some problem in her ear and she was advised by the doctor to undergo an ear surgery. On doctor’s advice, Patil was admitted to Axis Hospital for operation.
She was taken to the operation theatre at the scheduled time. Before the operation, Patil was given an anaesthesia injection to make her unconscious, after which she developed complications and later died. During the preliminary investigation, it was found that Patil died due to wrong injection of anesthesia. The body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death, he said.
Case filed, probe on
A case of accidental death has been registered at Amboli police station, and further probe is underway, police said. Patil was posted with the local arms division of the Mumbai police at Marol in Andheri. She used to live in Sarovar Tower in Kandivali East area in Mumbai.
