Commissionerate Police Seized 75 Kg of Ganja in Bhubaneswar, 4 Peddlers Held | Pragativadi | Odisha News, Breaking News Odisha, Latest Odisha News
Bhubaneswar: The Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police seized 75 kilograms of contraband ganja and apprehended four suspects involved in the illicit trade. This operation was aimed at eradicating drug-related activities in the twin city.
The smugglers have been identified as Babula Sabar (28) of Labarsingh, Sabar Sahi in Gajapati, Bibhu Prasad Acharya (28) of Gurujanga Housing Board Colony in Nayagarh, Chandan Kumar Ghadei (25) of Tiar Sahi, Kurala in Nayagarh and Babul Barad (22) of Paikra Sahi, Kurala in Nayagarh.
On 30.07.24 around 6.15 P.m., a Unit of Special Crime Unit officers and men noticed an Indica Car bearing Regd No OR-21—E-2007 was parked in front of a temple in Gangapada, 50 meters from the NH-16 and six persons were found near the car.
As their activities appeared to be suspicious, the police team proceeded towards them to verify. At
the sight of the police team approaching all the six persons started running. Out of them
the unit was able to apprehend four suspects and two ran away.
Out of the two who ran, one suspect went toward the NH to escape from the police and was dashed by one speeding Hyva. The injured was immediately shifted to Khurda Hospital by PCR where
he has been declared received dead.
During questioning all the four accused confessed to having in possession of
contraband ganja in the car which they would have disposed of with some local vendor.
The deceased has been identified as Johan Raita, aged 40 years, S/o Baga Raita of village Sinkulipadar, PS-Mohanan, Gajapati and the kingpin of this narcotic trafficking gang. He has
criminal antecedents in Mohana PS and was previously arrested in a similar type of case.
Police also seized 75 Kg of Ganjei(Cannabis) worth Rs 7,50,000, One Indica Car bearing Regd No OR-21-E-2007, and five mobile phones including one of the deceased.
Johan Raita, an escaping suspect, who met with a fatal accident on NH-16, while attempting to flee is a habitual Ganjei smuggler. Regarding this incident, a separate case has been registered at Infovelley Police Station and is under investigation.
