After asking all the miniplexes to close operations for failing to meet the fire safety norms, the AMC has now decided to let them resume operations from Saturday.
The AMC has asked miniplexes to sign a bond which requires them to fulfill the fire safety norms within three months from the date of signing the bond failing which they will be liable for action. In the meantime, if any accident takes place, the owner or operator of the unit will be liable for the same without any blame on the corporation.
The bond includes issues like fire safety, GRUDA 2022 (Gujarat Regularization of Unauthorized Development Act 2022), Building Use (BU) permission among other administrative requirements including permission from the Ahmedabad Collectorate.
There are around 30 miniplex units operating in the city and employ around 1,200 people. The miniplexes were closed after the AMC conducted a drive for fire safety norms post the Rajkot fire tragedy incident that killed over 28 people.
