The CID Crime branch of Gujarat Police launched a crackdown, starting Tuesday night, on hotels and spas in Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar, targeting establishments suspected of being involved in sex trafficking. Undercover police teams visited a total of 35 premises, based on which raids were conducted at 13 locations. 

During the raids, the officials rescued women and transgender persons from different states of India as well as foreign countries. The women were rescued from Hotel Ramada in Prahladnagar, Urban Aqua Spa in Sargasan, Galaxy Spa in Time Square Bodakdev, Mahera Spa in Thaltej, Vivanta Spa in Sola, Mahera Spa at Iskcon crossroads, Hotel Pragati Grand near Zydus Hospital, Hotel Island Park in Thaltej, New Comfort Inn in Ambawadi, and Maruti Hotel on Ashram Road.

Among those rescued were 14 foreigners, including a woman and two transgender persons from the Philippines, eight women (one of whom was pregnant) from Uganda, one from Thailand and two from Uzbekistan. 
Cops also rescued 39 Indians from 10 states being forced to work in these establishments, including nine women from Delhi, eight each from West Bengal and Gujarat, four from Maharashtra, three each from Tripura and Mizoram and one woman each from Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Sikkim.

The CID filed 22 cases and booked 24 under several laws. A total of 13 cases were filed under The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, six cases under The Foreigner Act and three under The Gujarat Prohibition Act as well the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
