Chennai speeds ahead: Tamil Nadu to host India’s first-ever night Formula 4 street circuit race

Chennai: Despite all the controversies surrounding the Chennai night-time street circuit car race in the city, the DMK-led Tamil Nadu is going ahead with it as it has planned to host India’s first ever Formula- 4 Night Raceon August 30-September 1.

The Indian Racing Festival (IRF) is set to make history with its inaugural night race at the Chennai Formula Racing Circuit from August 30 to September 1. This groundbreaking event marks the first night race on a street circuit in India. Here’s what Former F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan said at the event.

“The infrastructure is growing. The barriers which restricted entry into the sport is slowly becoming better and better. The sports is being promoted to grassroot level. The TN govt is taking a bold step forward for the race. Motor racing is miniscule compared to cricket, football in our country. But having the support encourages all. We all hope to have a very successful event.”

Racing into the night: Chennai gears up for historic Formula 4 street circuit event

The night race is going to be held on a 3.5 km circuit around the Chennai Island Stadium. The car race starts at Island Island and reaches the Island again via Anna Road, Sivananda Road, and Napier Bridge.

India’s first-ever Formula Race car race in Chennai is creating a lot of anticipation. As this is the first-night road car race in India and South Asia, it has created great interest among sports enthusiasts. Leading players from India and abroad are expected to participate in the mega event.

Chennai’s F4 night street race was originally planned last year but postponed 

The Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority has planned to hold the first night Formula 4 car race in Chennai on December 9 and 10 last year. But the event was postponed after powerful cyclone Michaung hit the city. Also, a case was filed in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on this event stating that the Tamil Nadu government does not get any benefit from holding this car race but the government planned to spend 40 crore rupees.
