Chennai rains: Met dept predicts rainy day ahead for city and neighboring districts

Chennai city and suburbs having pleasant monsoon weather with Light Rains.

Chennai: According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), 11 districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram are likely to receive rain in the next 3 hours. “In Tamil Nadu, in the next 3 hours (i.e. till 12 pm),  11 districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore and Kanyakumari likely to receive light to moderate rains,” the weather agency said.

Meanwhile, several areas in the capital city such as Porur, Ramapuram, Guindy, Teynampet, Mylapore and other places have received light moderate rains in the morning.

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at a few places in Tamil Nadu today due to changes in the speed of westerly winds. Also, from tomorrow till September 1, light to moderate rain may occur at a couple of places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions, the Meteorological Department has predicted.

Chennai weather forecast

The sky will be partly cloudy in Chennai. Light/moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in a few parts of the city. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 35-36°C and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 28-29°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure system is expected to form over the central and eastern Bay of Bengal, near the West Bengal coast. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and reach the coast of north Andhra Pradesh within the next 48 hours.

The Western Ghats, Northern Districts, and Kongu regions received good rains last week. Even though it is still sunny in the morning, there used to be rain with strong winds in the evening.
