Chennai Metro Phase-2 covers 116.1km with 118 stations.

Chennai: The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has commenced a feasibility study for metro line from the existing airport to Poonamallee via Kundrathur and Thiruneermalai covering around 16km. Once the line is ready, flyers will be able to travel from the old airport to the new one proposed at Parandur in less than one hour. The study will be done along with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Poonamallee to Parandur metro extension project.

The fourth route of the Chennai metro is the 26.1 km from Lighthouse-Poonamalle. Especially this is the Orange Line Metro. The route consists of a tunnel from Lighthouse to Kodambakkam flyover and an elevated half from Kodambakkam Powerhouse to Poonamalle. The route will have nine underground metro stations and 18 high-only metro stations.

Metro expansion on cards

The Chennai Metro Rail service, which was launched in 2015, has now become an irreplaceable public transport service among the people of Chennai. At present, two to three lakh passengers are traveling in the metro train, which is longing for a distance of 54 kilometers on two routes.

Especially in 2023 alone, the company said that 9.11 crore people have traveled by Chennai Metro Rail.
