Chennai: A special AC Express train from Chennai Central to Kochuveli will begin service on Wednesday to manage the high passenger demand. The train’s bookings were completed within hours of the announcement. However, seats are still available for return trips from Kochuveli.

The special train (06043) will depart from Chennai Central at 3:45 pm on August 14 and 21, arriving in Kochuveli at 8:30 am the following day. The return service (06044) will leave Kochuveli at 6:25 pm on August 15 and 22, reaching Chennai Central at 11:25 am the next morning.

However, no special trains have been arranged for the Malabar side despite high demand for travel to Mangaluru. Railway authorities have stated there is insufficient demand to justify a special train from Chennai to Mangaluru. A special train has also been approved to run from Chennai (on Wednesday) to Nagercoil.

In a related update, several trains operating between major cities will experience route changes in the coming days. The Guruvayur-Chennai Egmore Express, which typically runs via Alappuzha, will be rerouted via Kottayam from August 16 to 26. Similarly, the Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Superfast train, also usually traveling via Alappuzha, will follow the Kottayam route on August 18 and 25. The Antyodaya Express from Kochuveli, which normally operates via Alappuzha, will be redirected via Kottayam on August 17, 22, and 24.
