Ludhiana: The house of a hosiery businessman was burgled while he and his family were away on vacation in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The unidentified accused made away with Rs 2 lakh cash and gold jewellery.
Kapil Gupta, 40, of Phase- III of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, said that he, along with his family, had left for Manali on June 24. On returning home on June 27, they allegedly found the house ransacked.
“We noticed that the window grill of the kitchen was broken through which the accused must have barged into the house. The almirahs were also broken and Rs 2 lakh cash and at least 120 gm gold jewellery was missing from the house,” alleged Kapil.
CCTV cameras installed at a neighbour’s house revealed that an unidentified man had dropped two others riding pillion on his bike outside the house. While one of them kept standing near the main gate to keep a watch, the other went inside and executed the theft.
While the incident occurred on June 27, the police lodged an FIR on July 15. The victim said that he had to approach senior police officials to get an FIR lodged.
“Despite the entire incident having been captured on the CCTV cameras installed in the neighbourhood, the police took over two weeks to lodge an FIR. I had to approach a senior police official to get the case registered,” said Gupta.
On being asked about the delay in lodging of the FIR, sub-inspector Sukhdev Raj, in-charge of SBS Nagar police post, refused to comment. An FIR under sections 457 (house trespass) and 380 (theft) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
