Bhubaneswar: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for the premature repatriation of YB Khurania, IPS, Special DG, BSF to his parent Odisha cadre with immediate effect.

In a major rejig in the Border Security Force (BSF) by the Ministry of Home Affairs, BSF Chief Nitin Agarwal has been sent back to the parent Kerala cadre while BSF Special DG Western Command YB Khurania has been sent back to the parent Odisha cadre.

The 1990-batch IPS officer YB Khurania was serving as Additional DGP (Provisioning) in Odisha before Central deputation. Speculations are rife that Khurania is set to become the next Director General of Police for Odisha.

Khurania served as Superintendent of Police of Rourkela, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam and several other districts. On promotion to the rank of DIG/IG, he served as range DIG/IG of Bhubaneswar Range, Southern Range Berhampur and Northern Range Sambalpur.

Rumblings over Jammu infiltration are said to be a factor in this reshuffle by the government. The drawdown of BSF force levels for recent Lok Sabha election duty has been a matter of internal debate in security circles after the unprecedented infiltration that seems to have occurred via the Jammu international border. Notably, Special DG Western Command oversees the International Border in J&K and Punjab.
