A cabinet meeting chaired by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday, August 21 has reduced the registration charges of the motor vehicles. These vehicles include cars, bikes, autos and cabs. This decision by the Bihar CM has been taken to promote the purchase and registration of vehicles in Bihar. The registration charges in Bihar were higher than in other states. After this decision, the Bihar natives can purchase cars at cheap rates in their state and they don’t need to visit Ranchi to buy the vehicles. Thirty one proposals were cleared in the August 21 Bihar cabinet meeting. For motorcycle registration, the Bihar natives must pay Rs 1,150, instead of Rs 1,500. The registration charge for auto will be Rs 1,150, instead of Rs 5,650. Regarding the cab, the charges will be only Rs 4,150, instead of Rs 23,650.
Other important decisions taken in cabinet meeting
1. There will be 4 zones in Patna Sadar.
2. The municipal workers will receive the benefits of the 7th pay scale commission.
3. Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death anniversary will now be celebrated as a Rajkiya Samaroh.
4. Free cervical cancer vaccine will be available for girls aged 9-14 years.
5. Bihar Cabinet has approved the reinstatement of 466 posts in the Sports Department.
Behind this decision, the Bihar government decided to launch a family-based social register to create a database of beneficiaries of welfare schemes of the state. Cabinet Secretariat’s Additional Chief Secretary S Siddharth told reporters, “The aim of launching this register is to develop a database of all beneficiaries who are availing of government welfare schemes in the state.” According to him, in the future, those who want to avail benefits of such welfare schemes will have to first register themselves with the portal. After the registration, he said, each individual will be allotted a specific registry number.
As per him, the social registry system will also minimise fraud and duplication of beneficiaries. He said that it will also provide a monitoring mechanism for the living standards. S Siddharth said that the department will spend Rs 85.23 crore in developing the social register. He added that the process will start very soon.
