Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has constituted a special team comprising officials from Airfield Police Station which continues raids at several localities to nab the three accused involved in the double murder that took place on Wednesday night.

“A team of Airfield police launched a search to trace the accused. Two of the associates of the accused have been detained and are being interrogated by Airfield police. A special team comprising officials from Airfield police station has been formed and efforts are on to arrest the accused,” DCP Prateek Singh said at a press meet.

“The scientific team has gathered all the evidence from the spot. We are also collecting all the CCTV footage. We have also examined the parents of the deceased,” he added.

The post-mortem of the victims, Rasmi Ranjan Sehty alias Jitu and his friend Sambit Rout alias Julu, are being conducted, the DCP informed.

The murder incident took place in an apartment named Kalyani Plaza under Airfield police station area in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday night.

Rasmi Ranjan and his friend Sambit were murdered by one Ganesh Mallik and two of his associates following a scuffle over vehicle parking in the apartment, the DCP said. Ganesh, who is the supervisor in the residential complex, is the prime accused in the crime, Singh said.

Rashmiranjan and Ganesh had past enmity over parking issues. On Wednesday night, the situation turned ugly when Rashmiranjan parked his car in front of the plaza and refused to remove it.

Ganesh physically attacked him and Rashmiranjan also retaliated.The situation escalated when Ganesh called his friends and chased Rashmiranjan and brutally attacked him, stabbing him in the chest. Rasmi Ranjan’s friend Sambit who attempted to intervene, was also stabbed by Ganesh and his associates.

Locals rushed the severely injured Rashmiranjan and Sambit. Rasmi Ranjan was pronounced dead on arrival while Sambit succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
