‘Bharat ki Beti’: Social Media Sent Into Frenzy After Vinesh Phogat Secures Historic Spot in Wrestling Final at Paris Olympics 2024 – News18

The internet went berserk as Vinesh Phogat created history to make her way into the final of the Women’s 50kg freestyle event at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Star Indian wrestler, Vinesh Phogat is now one step away from a historic gold at the Paris Olympics 2024 which sent social media into a frenzy.

She was able to dominate Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez to secure a 5-0 victory to step into the big finale. The semi-final victory also ensures a guaranteed medal with Phogat getting at least a silver which is already a massive feat in itself.

The former India hockey player, Viren Rasquinha highlighted her tumultuous journey towards the final where she now became the first Indian woman to reach the final of the Olympics.

The former Olympic gold medalist, Abhinav Bindra shared a heartfelt post where he looked back at her journey in the Tokyo 2020 games where she had broken a ligament during her debut. Since then she was forced to go into a lower weight category where she had to get past an undefeated world champion as well. Phogat has certainly set the world alight with her undeniable charisma and tenacity.

The former Indian cricketer, Jhulan Goswami also took to social media to congratulate Phogat on her outstanding achievement.

She said,” Saw girl power at its highest peak today in Wrestling Women’s Freestyle 50 kgs. Vinesh Phogat has made history by reaching the Olympic finals… by being the first Indian female wrestler to reach the Olympic Finals. Best of luck for August 7th. Bring home the gold”.

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs and the Member of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh also congratulated Phogat on the historic achievement by deeming her performance as an ‘exceptional one’.

Even the official Indian handle by the International Olympic Association had just one thing to say, ‘ Take a Bow’.

The official handle of the Indian Premier League side, Delhi Capitals had a short but sweet note where they wrote,” WINesh Phogat, Remember the name’. They also uploaded a photo of the Indian wrestler which had a short note on top saying, “Bharat ki Beti’.

In the big finale, Phogat is set to take on the United States of America’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt where the final will take place on August 7 on Wednesday.
