Bengaluru: After several accidents on the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) road due to careless driving and speeding, the Bengaluru Police have introduced new speed limits for better road safety. The Bengaluru Traffic Police said that passenger vehicles with up to eight seats (excluding the driver) will have a speed limit of 120 km/h. Meanwhile, the vehicles with nine or more seats are restricted to 100 km/h. The police added that motorcycles and goods vehicles must not exceed 80 km/h.

In addition to this, two-wheelers will remain banned from using the NICE Road between 10 pm and 5 am daily, starting August 2. To improve traffic flow on the stretch, new restrictions on heavy goods vehicles have also been implemented. According to a press release dated August 2, 2024, these vehicles are banned from the roads during specific hours each day.

From Monday to Friday, heavy goods vehicles are prohibited from 7 am to 11 am, and from 4 pm to 10 pm. Starting Saturday, these restrictions will also apply on all Saturdays, with heavy goods vehicles banned from 10 am to 2:30 pm and from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police shared this information on their official X handle to inform commuters about the new traffic rules. The new rules have been rolled out as a part of the Commissioner of Police’s efforts to improve traffic conditions in the city. Motorists are advised to plan their travels accordingly around these restricted times to avoid any inconvenience.

In other news, the extended Green Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro, which will connect Nagasandra to Madavara (BIEC) on Tumakuru Road, is expected to start commercial service by October. The Managing Director of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced that trial runs on this 3-kilometre section will begin soon.
