New Delhi: The Indian duo of Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya plundered records with sensational knocks for their team South Delhi Superstarz in their clash against North Delhi Strikers in the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) on Saturday, August 31. The two batters notched up centuries apiece to create history by setting a new world record for the highest partnership in T20 cricket for any wicket.

Badoni, who is leading South Delhi Superstarz in the Delhi Premier League 2024, came out to bat at number 3 and smashed 165 off just 55 balls laced with a mammoth 19 sixes while opener Arya hammered an unbeaten 120 off 50 balls laced with 10 sixes, including six sixes in an over. The duo shared a 286-run stand for the 2nd wicket to etch their names in record books.

Badoni and Arya broke the previous record held by Japanese batters Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake and Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming . Yamamoto and Kendel shared a 258-run stand in a T20I match against China in Mong Kok in February this year. The Japanese duo’s record looked nearly unbreakable but Badoni and Arya went hammers and tongs against North Delhi Strikers to surpass it on Saturday.

2nd highest total in T20 history

The onslaught from Badoni and Arya helped South Delhi Superstarz post a whopping total of 308/5 on the board in 20 overs, the second-highest in T20 history. Nepal’s 314/3 in a T20I against Mongolia last year remains the highest-ever innings total in T20 history. Thanks to Badoni and Arya’s onslaught, South Delhi Superstarz became the first Indian franchise to breach the 300-run mark in T20 cricket.

Most sixes in an innings

Badoni, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has already showcased his brilliance with the bat in the past, smashed a staggering 19 sixes en route to his 165 off 55 balls against North Delhi Strikers in the Delhi Premier League on Saturday. Badoni broke the record for most sixes by any batter in a T20 innings.

The record was previously held by Sahil Chauhan of Estonia, who had smashed 18 sixes in a single innings. Badoni also broke Shreyas Iyer’s record for the highest individual score by an Indian in T20s. Iyer scored 147 runs in Mumbai’s clash against Sikkim in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2019. However, Badoni went past him with his 165-run knock on Saturday.
