Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma links Dhing rape incident to land encroachment
Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that recent incident of minor girl being raped in Dhing is linked to a design on land encroachment.
Sarma while talking to media persons in Guwahati said that in 12 to 14 district Indigenous people are minorities and the trend is they they initiate criminal activities that’s our indigenous Assamese people leave their land as they do not feel safer so this is not only crime against women there is a larger design this is linked to land encroachment.
He said that this is a pattern they are following last 15 years that they first commit a crime, instell a sense of fear among Assamese people and they sale their land and leave . In Dhing there is tremendous pressure on Assamese people to leave the area.
” Entire area once 90 percent Assamese people used to live today Assamese people reduced to ten percent because of continuous criminal activities. Assamese people are leaving, other section people are occupying the vacated land. In Dhing last few years , criminal incidents are increasing , these are used as weapon to get land vacated, ” He said.
Sarma said these activities has increased after the recent lok sabha election. “This can be inferred with the resurgence a particular political party which has support base among that section who are involved in these crimes. These are the challenges in front of Assam and we have to identify who is our friend and who is our enemy. This is happening for decades in Assam this is why Assam Agitation happened in the 80s”.
