Assam BJP to bring new bills to state assembly to fight against

Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 4 (ANI): To fight against Land and Love Jihad, the Assam State BJP on Sunday decided to introduce new bills in the state assembly, party president Bhabesh Kalita said.

The decision was taken during the executive meeting of the state BJP held in Guwahati on Sunday.

“To protect Jati, Mati and Beti, we have decided against Land Jihad. Accordingly, we also took a decision to fight against Love Jihad and Assam Chief Minister has accepted these decisions and he assured that the state government will bring new bills in the state assembly,” Kalita told ANI.

He also said that, during the meeting, the party has formed a committee under the leadership of the party’s senior leader and Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog to find out the promises made by the party in its election manifesto in 2021 and which are yet to be implemented.

“We hope that all the promises will be implemented by December 2025,” Bhabesh Kalita said.

He also said that today’s executive meeting has extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for the party’s grand success in the last Lok Sabha polls.

“Issues of upcoming bye-elections for five assembly constituencies and Panchayat polls were also thoroughly discussed in the meeting. BJP will again come to power in 2026,” Bhabesh Kalita said.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that his government will bring a new law in the state assembly session to increase the punishment in Love Jihad cases to life imprisonment.”We will bring a new law in the state assembly where the punishment of Love Jihad will be increased to lifetime imprisonment,” CM Sarma saidIn a series of posts on X, Assam CM said, “Assam government is bringing two laws to stop Land Jihad and Love Jihad… If a Muslim wants to buy a Hindu’s property or a Hindu wants to buy a Muslim’s property, he will have to get government permission… Those practising love jihad will be punished with life imprisonment…”Sarma has also announced that the Assam government will require the Chief Minister’s approval for interfaith land transfers between Hindus and Muslims.

He also had expressed concerns about population control and the need to protect the interests of the indigenous population of Assam”We will provide the rights of tea garden colony lands to the tea garden labourers. We will bring domicile policy for government jobs recruitment in next two months allowing only those born in Assam,” CM Sarma said while addressing the Assam State BJP executive meeting held at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati today.(ANI)
