Arunachal Pradesh unveils ambitious tourism expansion plan
Guwahati, July 24: Arunachal Pradesh is aiming to develop high-end, niche tourism while respecting the ecological capacity of its prime locations.
In the 2024-25 budget presentation, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Chowna Mein highlighted a new Tourism Policy, covering Film, Farm, Wine Tourism, Tea and Eco-Tourism, and a Homestay Policy. These initiatives aim to provide holistic experiences, attract investments, and create job opportunities for youth.
“We are confident that Arunachal Pradesh has the potential to become the tourism and adventure tourism capital of the Northeast,” the minister stated.
He emphasized the role of cinematic tourism in marketing the destination and creating entrepreneurial opportunities. “We shall notify an attractive and innovative Film Tourism Policy to make Arunachal Pradesh a film-friendly state,” he said.
The state plans to develop hill stations with high-quality experience zones and promote tourism in border areas by simplifying guidelines and setting up tourism facilities, war memorials, and museums.
To enhance the tourist experience, six modern caravans have been introduced, providing a unique way to explore the state’s natural beauty.

A comprehensive promotion campaign will highlight unique landmarks like the historic Stillwell Road and the ancient Chakzam Bridge. Far-flung villages will be made attractive through the integration of local food, healing practices, and herbal medicine. “Bird tourism at Eaglenest is one successful example. We will allocate 50 Lakh to identify potential niches this year on a pilot basis,” he said.
Ganga Lake, near Itanagar, will be developed as a significant tourist attraction by showcasing traditional dwellings and daily life artifacts of various communities, enhancing Itanagar’s ecotourism potential.
The Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary will be elevated into a premier wildlife tourism spot with the reintroduction of rhinoceroses to enrich its biodiversity, benefiting both conservation and local economic prospects.
The government also proposes creating iconic treks and trails in each district, such as the Seven Lakes Trail and Bailey Trail, to highlight the state’s natural beauty and attract adventure enthusiasts, boosting tourism and local economies.
