Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on August 15 informed that his government will come up with an “attractive and innovative film tourism policy” soon in an effort to have an ecosystem for film production within the state.

“To promote, develop an ecosystem for film production and to stimulate the tourism economy through cinematic tourism, we will notify an attractive and innovative film tourism policy,” Khandu said in his Independence Day address at IG Park in Itanagar.

While noting that cinematic tourism is an excellent way for destination marketing, he said it creates opportunities for entrepreneurship and promotes Arunachal Pradesh as a preferred tourist destination among the Indian and global audiences and filmmakers.

“Arunachal Pradesh, with its breathtaking landscapes, stands as a treasure-trove of natural beauty and diverse ecosystems. We envision transforming our state into a premier destination for high-end, niche tourism, carefully balancing development with the preservation of our precious environment,” CM Pema Khandu said.

While informing that the state has witnessed a remarkable 64 per ent increase in tourist footfall in the last few years, Khandu said: “This surge in visitors speaks volume about the allure and beauty of our state, the richness of our cultural heritage and the warmth of our hospitality.”

“To further diversify our tourism offerings and attract a broader audience, we will develop state-of-the-art infrastructure for adventure sports, including trekking, rafting, angling, paragliding and rock climbing, catering to thrill-seekers and nature enthusiasts,” he said.

The chief minister further said that the government will enter partnerships with nationally and globally renowned hospitality aggregators to develop and promote the state’s pristine locations as tourism hubs, “ensuring balance between our ecological carrying capacity and the preservation of our indigenous cultures and traditions”.

“To enhance the state’s distinct cultural and historical identity,” Khandu said: “We will launch a comprehensive promotion and marketing campaign for our unique and irreplaceable landmarks, including the historic Stillwell Road, the Chakzam Bridge and more.”

He also informed of the government’s vision to transform the Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary near Pasighat in East Siang district into a premier wildlife tourism destination and added that “as part of this effort, we will reintroduce rhinoceroses to enrich its biodiversity”.
