Arunachal: Combing ops in Namdapha National Park to curb forest crimes

Dibrugarh, Aug 22: A combing operation was conducted in the western boundary of Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve adjoining to the Lohit district (Kathan village area) earlier this week to crackdown on forest crimes in Arunachal Pradesh.

On a special tip off a team, under the leadership of V. K. Jawal, CF & Field Director, Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve, along with the Range Forest Officers & members of STPF, conducted the operation on August 20th.

Team conducted thorough search operations and could detect and dismantle probable poacher camps within Miao Wildlife Range.

During the patrolling, total of two make-shift poacher camps were dismantled and destroyed.

By conducting this operation, the Namdapha authorities aimed to send a clear message of zero tolerance to any kind of unlawful activities inside the Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve jurisdiction.

Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve is a protected area and any kind of illegal/unlawful activity in and around the park will lead to strict action under the provisions of The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

Namdapha is the third largest national park in India. It is located in the easternmost corner of Arunachal Pradesh.

Namdapha National Park is 1,985km (766 square miles) in area and was declared a tiger reserve under Project Tiger scheme in 1983.

Namdapha, being part of the India-Myanmar biodiversity hotspot, is supposedly the only park in the world to harbour four species of large cats – tigers, snow leopards, clouded leopards and leopards.
