DG Vigilance Alok Raj has been given additional charge of DGP of Bihar. Alok Raj is a 1989 batch IPS officer. Who will replace RS Bhatti. Bhatti has been made the Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Today Alok Raj was called to CM residence to meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. After which the Home Department issued a notification. Earlier, two more names Shobha Ahotkar and Vinay Kumar were in the race for DGP. In which Alok Raj is the most senior. Alok Raj is an IPS officer of batch 1989, Shobha Ahotkar is 1990 and Vinay Kumar is 1991 batch.
Even before this, the name of Alok Raj was in the news when the Nitish government expressed confidence in RS Bhatti, who was a batch junior to him. Alok Raj will retire in December 2025, before that he has a long tenure left. He has experience of working with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for seven years in the Naxalite areas of West Bengal and Jharkhand. He has had a long tenure in the state on various posts including DG (Training).
He previously worked as IG (headquarters), IG (weaker sections), special secretary (home), ADG (law and order), special branch, CID, railways, DG (training), Bihar Police Academy, BSAP, DG-cum- Chairman of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation. Alok Raj is a soft-spoken and rule-abiding officer. He is also known for his singing, he has sung many bhajans and ghazals. He has done his course in classical music and has also made many albums.
In an old interview with HT, he had said that I keep my professional life and passion separate. Everyone should give 100 percent to their profession. As long as I am in this profession, I will try to do the same. But when it comes to passion, I also give my 100%. It gives you a chance to come out of stress and overcome any negativity. As DGP, he has taken charge at a time when assembly elections are going to be held in the state during his tenure. Apart from this, there are also challenges to make the police system effective to restore the confidence of the people.
Today, the Bihar government relieved DGP RS Bhatti from taking over as Director General of Police of CISF at the Centre on deputation basis. He will work under the Central Government from the date of taking over till the date of retirement i.e. 30 September 2025. The Home Department issued a notification regarding this on Friday.
While transferring IPS officer R Mallar Willi, she has been posted as ADG Police Academy, Rajgir. While she will be in additional charge of ADG, CID (Weaker Sections). Along with this, a notification was issued to hand over ADG Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir Bhrigu Srinivasan to the Union Home Ministry to work as Director General in the National Security Guard (NSG) on the basis of service deputation from the date of assuming charge till 31 August 2027.
