In a significant development, 1989-batch IPS officer Alok Raj has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar. This appointment follows the central deputation of former DGP Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, who has taken on the role of Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Alok Raj, who previously served as the Director General of Surveillance, is widely recognised for his calm demeanour, keen observational skills, and unique working style. Known as a responsible and seasoned police officer, he has held several key positions throughout his career.

The selection of the new DGP came after a keenly contested race among three senior IPS officers: Alok Raj, Shobha Ahotkar, and Vinay Kumar. Notably, Alok Raj was also considered for the DGP position during the previous selection process.

Shobha Ahotkar, a 1990-batch IPS officer known for her sharp acumen and tough temperament, currently serves as the Director General of the Home Guard and Fire Brigade. For her strong stance on law enforcement, she is popularly referred to as “Hunter Wally.”

Vinay Kumar, a 1991-batch IPS officer and an IIT Kharagpur engineering graduate, is appreciated for his simplicity and humility. He currently holds the position of Director General of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation.
