AirAsia Thailand unveiled new direct flight routes from Phuket to Chennai and Kolkata, promising seamless travel to paradise from two of India’s major cities.

Starting from October 27, these flights will offer travellers a convenient gateway to Phuket’s pristine beaches, vibrant cultural scenes, and delectable seafood. The Chennai-Phuket route will operate thrice weekly, while the Kolkata-Phuket connection will take off daily.

AirAsia’s Chief Executive Officer Santisuk Klongchaiya expressed excitement over the expansion.

“AirAsia has long awaited the opportunity to expand its network to the major metro cities of India. With new aviation rights in place, we’re extending our international network beyond Bangkok.”

Phuket is a magnet for tourists worldwide, known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The new routes are expected to cater not only to Indian tourists but also to international travellers in Thailand and Thai nationals eager to explore India.

Chennai, renowned for its Marina Beach and spiritual sites, and Kolkata, a cultural epicentre with iconic colonial architecture, are perfect complements to Phuket’s appeal.

Santisuk highlighted the broader economic benefits.

“Bridging travel between our two nations will promote tourism and business, bolstering both of our economies.”‘

With these additions, AirAsia Thailand now boasts flights to 12 Indian cities, offering a total of 67 weekly flights, including its newest destination, Hyderabad. This expansion reaffirms AirAsia’s commitment to enhancing connectivity between Thailand and India, reported Travel Daily News.

In related news, Japanese carrier ANA has successfully maintained the load factor on Thailand-Japan routes at the same robust level as in 2019, despite the challenges posed by a weak yen. Notably, the majority of its passengers are now Thai tourists and long-haul travellers transiting through Japan.
