Senapati Calls For Peace With “Run For Peace In Manipur” Marathon

Imphal, Aug 2: Senapati district took a stand for peace by hosting the “Run for Peace in Manipur” Marathon. Organized by the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), the event served as a precursor to the Senapati District Inter-School Sports Meet, scheduled for August 3-7.

The marathon featured two categories: High School students and Open participants. Runners started from Karong Bridge and finished at Traffic Point in Senapati. SDSA President Yunuo Peter emphasized the significance of the event, urging an end to the 15-month-long ethnic violence affecting the state. He called for a return to peace and tranquility under the event’s theme.

Senapati District Commissioner Mamoni Doley, IAS, who flagged off the marathon, congratulated the winners and highlighted the importance of participation and unity in sports. She stressed that communal harmony among Manipur’s diverse communities is essential for a peaceful society. The DC also encouraged participants to promote peace in their schools and wished them success in the upcoming sports meet.

In the High School Boys category, Putuveichao of Grace English School secured first place, followed by Lungkimlak of Compassion Residential Academy and Adhahrii Albert of Savio High School. For the High School Girls, Veine of Savio High School came first, with Leshini of Don Bosco and Chamwiliu Chawang of Mt. Everest Hr. Sec. in second and third, respectively.

In the Open Men’s category, H. Ngaopulou of Liyai Khunou took first place, with A. Marikho and Thotngacheirin Hunphung Luiyi following. Kawsi Rai of District Council led the Open Women’s category, with Sayia of Taphou Naga and Thaisa of Tingsong Khullen earning second and third places, respectively.

The event concluded with a unified call for peace as participants chanted, “We want Peace in Manipur.”
