New Delhi: A house collapsed in Sabzi Mandi area of Delhi on Wednesday. Several people are reportedly feared trapped under the debris.

Upon receiving the information, a total of 5 fire tenders were rushed to the site. The incident took place following heavy rainfall in Delhi.

Delhi roads turn into rivers

The downpour caused water to accumulate on many streets, turning roads in Delhi and Noida into temporary rivers. This led to traffic jams and difficulties for commuters. Many office workers who left work in the evening found themselves stranded due to the worsening road conditions.

In Delhi, water levels have risen significantly, making it difficult to walk in certain areas, including outside Karol Bagh Metro Station, where water reached up to waist height. Traffic came to a standstill on major roads, such as the route from Mandi House to ITO, due to water accumulation under the ITO underpass.

Red alert issued for Delhi

India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted rain for three consecutive days—Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The heavy rain in Delhi, lasting just two hours, caused considerable disruptions. The department has issued a red alert for continued heavy rainfall in Delhi and surrounding areas for the next 24 hours, suggesting that additional rainfall could lead to further challenges.

Weather experts from Skymet Weather predicted continued rain in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh over the next 24 hours. Heavy showers are expected in western Uttar Pradesh regions, including Bijnor, Saharanpur, and Meerut. On Wednesday, significant rainfall was recorded across various districts in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, and Kaushambi.
