Itanagar, July 29: Thupten Lhamu has been crowned Miss Universe Arunachal 2024, securing her spot to compete in the upcoming Miss Universe India pageant. The announcement was made at a glittering ceremony, marking a significant milestone in Lhamu’s journey to represent the state on the national stage.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to social media to congratulate Lhamu on her victory, praising the youth of Arunachal Pradesh as “versatile & dynamic”. He expressed his best wishes for her success in the grand event, saying, “We all join in praying for your success in the grand event. Our best wishes.”
This year marks a change in the Miss Universe selection process for India, where state winners will compete for the national title at Miss Universe India. The winner will then represent the country on the global stage at the Miss Universe pageant.
The Miss Universe pageant, first held in 1952, is one of the world’s most-watched beauty competitions, with contestants from nearly 100 countries participating annually. India has claimed three Miss Universe titles to date, with Sushmita Sen securing the crown in 1994, followed by Lara Dutta in 2000, and Harnaaz Sandhu in 2021.
