Manipur CM N Biren Singh said that he was saddened by the violence in the state

New Delhi: Manipur Chief Minister in an interview to News9 said that he was saddened at the violence and crisis that have hit the state, since the past 1 and a 1/2 years. He said that the situation should not have taken such a turn, because the core issue was identification of illegal migrants from Myanmar and other countries. He said that during an uprising in neighbouring Burma (Myanmar) in 1962, some people entered Manipur and settled down in the state.

Victim of conspiracy: Biren Singh

The Chief Minister said that the root cause that he was suffering was because he had started a war on drugs. He was responding to a question about him being a victim of conspiracy. He claimed that he had thought of resigning from the post, when the pressure on him was really high. He said, “People think I can do, but as a Constitutionally elected leader he cannot do much.” It was during this period that the CM claimed that he took a decision to resign.

But the CM said that he realised that he needed  to finish some tasks and that’s why he remained the head of the government. I was pained that something of this sort was happening during my time, added Singh.

The CM also said that if weapons are being taken away, they should be from the entire Manipur and not just the Valley. He said that the main issue is that the indigenous population is alarmed by the illegal immigration plaguing the state. He described it as the core reason for the present crisis.
