Aizawl, July 29: The Mizoram government has requested a special financial package from the central government to implement its flagship program, ‘Bana Kaih’ or ‘Hand Holding’ policy, aimed at addressing economic disparities and creating jobs in the state.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced the policy during the NITI Aayog meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, seeking a special financial package to carry out the program.

The policy aims to improve access to institutional credit, especially microcredit, for agriculture and small businesses, and will be implemented by coordinating different central government schemes and initiatives.

The Mizoram government has allocated Rs. 200 crore for the 2024-25 fiscal year and Rs. 110 crore for agricultural support in the 2023-24 fiscal year to implement the policy.

The ‘Hand Holding’ policy focuses on supporting various sectors, including farmers, food processing, entrepreneurship, and small-scale industries, with a special emphasis on horticulture, fisheries, veterinary care, and sericulture.
