As the mercury continues to climb, residents of the town are facing discomfort and health risks associated with the extreme heat.

“The heat is unbearable. We are used to hot summers, but this is on another level. I’ve started drinking more water and avoid going out during the day,” said Abhigyan Hazarika, a local resident.

The heat wave has not only affected daily life but also raised concerns about public health. Local hospitals have reported an increase in heat-related illnesses.

“We’re seeing more cases of heat exhaustion and dehydration. It is crucial for people to recognise the symptoms of heat stress and take precautionary measures. We are advising people to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun during peak hours. Excessive outdoor activities should also be avoided,” said Dr Gayatri Gogoi, a physician at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH).
