Former Chief Technology Officer of President’s Office, Hamid Shafeeu, passes away

Former Chief Technology Officer at President’s Office Hamid Shafeeu has passed away earlier today.

Hamid, who did extensive work to develop the information technology sector during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, reportedly passed away while receiving treatment in Bangalore, India.

He was appointed to the senior post at the President’s Office on November 28, 2019 and served until the end of the administration.

Former President Solih shared a post on social media X stating that Hamid Shafeeu’s name will be recognized and revered for his contributions towards the information technology field in the Maldives. He emphasized that Hamid had diligently served the nation and the State over the years.

Former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail said that Hamid played a major role in managing the Covid-19 pandemic. Hamid led the development of the portal used by the Health Protection Agency during the pandemic.

Hamid held a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the UK. He was a Nutanix Support Specialist, as well as a Cisco Meraki Support Specialist.

Hamid is the brother of former Minister of Fisheries and current State Minister at Ministry of Higher Education Dr Ahmed Shafeeu and former President of Anti Corruption Commission Mohamed Shafeeu.
