K Kailashnathan, the former Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister of Gujarat, has been appointed as the Lt Governor of Puducherry. President Droupadi Murmu announced major changes among Governors of several states on Saturday night. 

“The President of India is pleased to appoint K Kailashnathan as the Lt Governor of Puducherry with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” an official communiqué said.

Kailashnathan had retired from his post at the CMO in June after a long tenure of 11 extensions. The most powerful bureaucrat in the state, Kailashnathan served as principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was Chief Minister.

KK, as he is fondly known, is a 1979 batch officer. He is considered very close to PM and is said to be eyes and ears of PM. He worked under four CMs- Modi, Anandiben Patel, Vijay Rupani and Bhupendra Patel.
