Haridwar schools closed from July 27 to August 2 in view of Kanwar Yatra

New Delhi: The District Magistrate, Haridwar has ordered the closure of schools from July 27 to August 2 in view of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. As per the order, all government, and non-government schools and Anganwadi centres from class 1 to 12 in the district will be closed from July 27 to August 2, 2024. The order has been passed because a huge number of devotees are expected to arrive at the Kanwar yatra.

The sacred Kanwar Yatra began on July 22, 2024. The District Magistrate Dhiraj Singh Garbiyal said that the closure of schools is announced as the rush is expected to increase over the next few days.

Advisory for Kanwar Yatra 2024

The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory related to the arrangements for the Kanwar Yatra and has alerted of the possible traffic jams in several areas. “The Kanwar Yatra begins on July 22, 2024, and ends on August 2, 2024, with the offering of holy Ganga water to Lord Shiva.” the police said

The advisory has also stated that a large number of Kanwariyas reach Delhi and some go to Haryana and Rajasthan through Delhi borders. The number expected is around 15-20 lakhs. The Delhi-Meerut Expressway is also closed and commuters have been advised to take alternate routes. The advisory further stated that elaborate arrangements are made by the traffic police to ease the movement of Kanwrias along with the commuters and to minimize the inconvenience.

Apart from this, in Ujjian all the schools will be closed from Classes 1-12 every Monday due to the Mahakal procession and the huge rush due to this. According to the order, all schools including private and government will be closed every Monday until September 2, 2024. The schools will be open on Sundays.

This decision has been taken as many roads will be closed due to the crowd in the procession of Lord Mahakal.
