Hyderabad: All educational institutions in Hyderabad will remain shut on Monday, September 2 due to heavy rain forecast in Hyderabad district.

With this in view, the Telangana government has announced that all educational institutions will remain closed keeping in mind the safety of children.

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, the state revenue and disaster management minister, said that the government has declared a holiday for schools in view of the forecast of heavy rains on Monday, reports DC.

The order was issued during a video conference with the district collectors. The meeting was attended by the chief secretary, municipal, Transco, revenue, panchayati Raj, HYDRAA, GHMC and irrigation officials.

Apart from this, Srinivas Reddy issued an urgent directive for officials to remain on high alert as heavy rains and floods continue to affect the state.

Reddy, during a morning review meeting, closely monitored the situation in the districts of Khammam, Kothagudem, Warangal, Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Hyderabad and directed disaster management officials to be on standby at the secretariat.

He asked district collectors to prepare for any emergency situations and implement immediate measures to assist those stranded in flood-affected areas and relocate residents from low-lying regions to safer locations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad on Friday, August 30 had forecasted very heavy rainfall for various districts of Telangana for Sunday, 01 September 2024.

IMD Hyderabad also said that very heavy rainfall is likely to continue until September 2.
