The sources said that the new government is of the view that Hasina was close to India and have done out of turn favour to them while signing the MoUs.

Bangladesh’s interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is likely to review and scrap the Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) signed with India if those are deemed not beneficial for the country, Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Minister Touhid Hossain said on Sunday.

As per the sources, there is no official communication regarding the review of the MoUs. The Indian government is of the view that this is initial stage of the new government in Bangladesh and they will have different version when they will evolve.

The sources said that the new government is of the view that Hasina was close to India and have done out of turn favour to them while signing the MoUs.

Asked if former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after her ouster on August 5, would be extradited, he said that the government will seek her extradition if required. Earlier, he had said that Bangladesh wants Hasina to be handed over to India for the cases filed against her as her Red Passport is already cancelled.

The sources said that the Indian government would consider the handing over Hasina only after it would receive any such request.

In June 2024, the Sheikh Hasina government signed 10 MoUs out of which seven were new and three were renewed. The MoUs were signed after the delegation-level talks between the two countries at the Hyderabad House during Hasina’s two-day state visit to India.
