The senior police officers advised that the outfits should ensure proper permission from landowners, local bodies, and concerned departments while installing idols.

Chennai:  The top brass of the Chennai City police met with representatives from Hindu organisations and outfits in the city to discuss the security arrangements and issued advisories for Vinayagar Chaturthi, which falls on September 7. Additional Commissioners of Police, K S Narendiran Nayar, N Kannan, and R Sudhakar, along with Joint Commissioners of all four zones and Joint Commissioner (Intelligence), met with over 200 representatives from Hindu Munnani, Hindu Makkal Katchi, Siva Sena, Hanuman Sena, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, among others.

No idols near places of worship, hospitals

The senior police officers advised that the outfits should ensure proper permission from landowners, local bodies, and concerned departments while installing idols. A No Objection Certificate from the Fire department and electricity board is a must. The outfits must fill out the requisite forms avail permission from the local police station and give an undertaking that they would adhere to all conditions. No outfit should install an idol exceeding ten feet in height and should avoid installing them near places of worship of other religions, hospitals, and schools.

Chennai police advisory stresses harmony, mutual respect

“No act which would hurt the religious sentiments of others should be carried out and such sloganeering should be avoided,” according to the advisory released by the city police. A volunteer should be posted to guard the idols on a rotation basis and no flex banners of any political leader should be placed near the idols.

The idols shall be immersed only on the day allotted by the police and can be taken in procession only on the route allotted by the police.
