Mumbai has been ranked as the 5th highest paying city in India for top tech positions after Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Delhi and Hyderabad. This has been highlighted in a new report by Teamlease Digital, ‘Digital Skills and Salary Primer for FY 2025’.

At the national level, Mumbai has become a strategic hub for multinational companies expanding their Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India and driving massive investments to expand their capabilities in IT, finance, research and development. Mumbai, with its strong infrastructure and rich talent pool, has become a key geographic area for these expansions.

Among the most popular tech jobs in Mumbai, product management, data science and data engineering lead the way, offering impressive pay packages of around Rs 19.5 lakh per annum, Rs 14.5 lakh per annum and Rs 10 lakh per annum respectively. Notably, these three major occupations have shown steady annual growth at all levels from FY24 to FY25, with increases of 7 percent to 11 percent especially for senior positions.

Meanwhile, jobs in cloud computing, data analytics, software development, full stack development and devops have a competitive salary of Rs 7.2 lakh per annum to Rs 8.3 lakh per annum. But, the salary for Financial Analysis and Cyber Security is around Rs 6.6 lakh per annum and Rs 5.4 lakh per annum respectively.

This report from Teamlease Digital, the market leader in tech staffing and learning solutions, provides essential information on modern industry trends, key skills and salary benchmarks across various sectors including IT products and services, Global Capability Centers (GCC) and non-tech industries. This comprehensive report provides a comprehensive analysis of skill demand between fiscal year 2024 and fiscal year 2025, as well as released salaries by job function, city, experience level and specific positions. Also, the report assesses high-demand skills and related certifications and makes policy recommendations to address skills gaps and align with market needs.

Commenting on the report’s findings, Munira Loliwala, Vice President, Strategy & Growth, Teamlease Digital, said, “The city of Mumbai has been a major contributor to the growth of India’s IT sector, particularly the expansion of Global Capability Centers (GCCs). Many multinational companies are investing heavily in GCCs in Mumbai to enhance their IT, financial and R&D capabilities. Cities account for 12 percent to 16 percent of the total GCCs in India. This is increasing the demand for AI, natural language processing and data mining along with accelerating job creation. Mumbai also offers competitive salaries for top tech positions including product management, data science and data engineering. As emerging technologies like 5G and IoT take India’s tech landscape to new heights, Mumbai is poised to lead innovation and development. With investment and blockchain, as well as growth in remote work and digital-centric policies, Mumbai is well positioned to be at the forefront of digital transformation and maintain its position as a major tech hub.”
