Adani Green Energy Interested For Setting Up Pumped Storage Project In Odisha For Power Generation | Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Adani Green Energy Group has shown interest to set up Pumped Storage Project (PSP) for generation of electricity at Nayagarh’s Birigarh in Odisha.
Adani Green Energy Group’s Subrat Tripathy and other senior officials expressed interest for the project during their meeting with Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Energy Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo at the conference hall of Lok Seba Bhavan here on Monday.
In the meeting PSP was discussed in which water will be collected with the help of pumps in the hilly areas and stored in one place and using that water electricity will be generated.
As Birigarh of Nayagarh in Odisha is a source of renewable energy, Adani Group is interested in setting up a renewable energy project at this place to generate electricity. In addition to Nayagarh places like Bargarh and Bolangir have enough opportunities to set up such projects.
Odisha has rich reserves of renewable energy. All that is required is its successful utilization and Adani Green Energy is keen to meet the state’s electricity demand by generating renewable energy from these untapped resources. For this, in 2022, the state government enacted a policy on the use of renewable energy. Nowadays, the government is promoting green energy driven industries. The government is trying to protect the environment by using green energy, especially in industries like the aluminum industry.
By setting up this project, the renewable energy generation target of the state can be achieved. In addition to environmental protection, development of the periphery area and employment opportunities can be created.
Singh Deo stated that this will help in fulfilling the target set by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use 50 percent renewable energy by 2030.
The meeting also discussed various issues such as cost estimation, technology, site selection for the project, etc. Additional Chief Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management Department Deo Ranjan Singh, Principal Secretary, Energy Department, representatives of Adani Green Energy Group were present during the meeting.
