Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project: 100-meter long ‘Make in India’ steel bridge launched near Silvassa – Railways News
A new 100-metre long steel bridge for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project was inaugurated on August 25 near Silvassa in Dadra & Nagar Haveli. This 1464 MT steel bridge, which is 14.6 m high and 14.3 m wide, was built in a workshop in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, then trailered to the installation location.
In order to launch without the need for intermediary support, a temporary launching nose measuring 84 metres in length and 600 MT was attached to the main bridge. To strengthen the bridge during launching, additional temporary members were also installed.

About 55,250 Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts with C5 system coating and elastomeric bearings were used for the main bridge, and 27,500 HSFG (High-strength friction grip) bolts were used to link the parts of the launching nose.
The steel bridge along with the launching nose was assembled near the site at a height of 14.5 m from the ground on temporary trestles and was pulled with an automatic mechanism of 2 semi-automatic jacks, each of capacity of 250 tons using mac-alloy bars.
Under the ‘Make in India’ campaign, India is progressively using its own technical and material resources to create infrastructure, drawing on Japanese experience. One significant example of this work is the steel bridge for the Bullet Train Projet, which is being carried out with extreme care, upholding the highest standards of engineering brilliance and safety.
For the Bullet Train corridor, this is the fourth completed steel bridge out of a total of 28. There are a total of 24 river bridges in the project, 20 are in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra. Out of 20 bridges in Gujarat, 10 have been completed.
On September 14, 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his then-Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe officially opened the project in Ahmedabad.
The goal of National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which was established on February 12, 2016, in accordance with the Companies Act, 2013, is to finance, build, maintain, and oversee the High-Speed Rail Corridor in India.
The Ministry of Railways and the governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra, along with the Central Government, have provided equity participation for the Company, which has been modelled as a ‘Special Purpose Vehicle’ in the joint sector.
