Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj to contest on all 243 seats in Bihar elections – India News
Election strategist-cum-political activist Prashant Kishor announced on Sunday that his political organisation Jan Suraaj, will contest all 243 seats in the Bihar assembly elections, with plans to field at least 40 women candidates. The elections in Bihar are due next year.
Kishor is likely to turn his organisation into a political party on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Speaking at a women’s convention in Patna’s Gyan Bhawan, Kishor, founder of the political consultancy I-PAC, asserted the group’s commitment to empowering women in the state.
“I have already stated that Jan Suraaj will run candidates in all 243 assembly seats in Bihar. We will ensure that at least 40 of those candidates are women,” the Jan Suraaj convener said.
He also promised that if Jan Suraaj forms the government, women aspiring to start their own businesses will receive financial support at a lower interest rate than what is currently charged to Jeevika Didis.
Kishor is currently on a foot march across Bihar, which he began from Bhitiharwa in West Champaran on October 2, 2022. Since then, Kishor has travelled over 5,000 kilometers through various districts of the state. He is currently conducting the padayatra in the Kosi region of Madhepura and Supaul in north Bihar.
